Cheers and soggily yours

So you wake up on a overcast rainy Monday after a rainy weekend and you probably don't really want to go to work. You console yourself by parking your car along the edge of a picturesque creek never thinking in a hundred years this would happen.

I'm assuming most of you have seen the reports on the heavy rain and flash flooding here in Toowoomba so I'm not going to go over old news here.

I have measured just over 300mls of rain here in the last three days so everything is beyond saturation at this point in time..

During yesterdays massive downpour (roughly 40mls of rain /hr for two hrs) we ended up with about 30cms or so of water running through the veggie garden and the back yard itself. I've lost half of my good composted, humus rich topsoil but a blessing in disguise is the weeding I've been unable to get to has helped hold some of the top soil together and stop it being washed away.

Although it's only early January I'm going to have to move on from a summer garden and start planning my autumn/winter garden. Though if the weather becomes I will still plant as much summer salad veggies as I can.

Cheers and soggily yours

Stewart

Glad to hear that you are okay Stewart. What an horrific event, who would have known that was going to happen, terrible for the ones who have lost love ones...

Cant say to stay dry, so stay safe. I hope the sun shines again very soon in Queensland.

Thank-you. We're all good here though a little drying out wouldn't go astray.

Relieved to hear you are safe and well. I hope most of your top soil stays put, it must be at least a little frustrating watching your fertility run down the driveway.

Kind Regards
Beinda

Hi Belinda, hopefully It's a one off event (first time in 17 yrs here) and I won't lose anymore top soil. It's too much hard work to have it wash away.
Cheers
Stewart

Glad to hear you are OK Stewart. Have been glued to the TV and shocked to see the images. Wondering and worrying about blogger friends in affected areas.

Glad to hear you're ok, I have been worrying about several of my blogger friends. Just as well you didn't do that weeding eh. Take care.

Thanks greenfumb and I will, um, take care that is. I haven't a clue when I'll get the weeding done.

Hi Stewart,

I was gobsmacked when I saw what happened in Toowoomba. I still can't get my head around the devastation. I'm glad to hear that you're OK, shame about the vege garden but better it than you.

Take care

Same from me too Stewart, So glad you & yours are safe. I can't help thinking that its not over yet, surely some of the water will reach our southern rivers at sometime, and, even though it may not be as devastating, will be more than is needed to fill our depleted waterways.
I hope and pray that they will find all those unaccounted for and they will be safe.

I received a little package in the post today, thank you.

Watching this all from afar and thinking of you all in the midst of this rainy madness. Glad the weeds did you a favour for a change! Hope autumn brings in more rewards for the garden. Glad you're OK (hope that wasn't one of your cars that got washed away - just couldn't believe my eyes when I saw that online).
