The magic cup of tea.

Afternoon cuppa tea time on Sunday and I took my cup for a walk with me into the veggie garden and when I was finished I put it down and went on weeding not giving the cup another thought.

A while later and it was time to pack up the tools and go inside (because it was getting cold and dark, yes I know, soft) and when I went to get my cup it was full of yummy little cherry tomatoes. Magic.

Cheers and may the magic be with you,

Stewart.

Atrocious, abysmal, diabolical.

Atrocious, abysmal, diabolical, appalling and execrable even, (yes I took a peak at a Thesaurus) that's just a few words that I've choosen to describe the weather around these parts latley and the reason (some say excuse) for my poor showing in the veggie garden lately. Throw in a trip to Byron Bay for my nieces 21 st Birthday party giving myself even less time in the veggie garden.
But, I have to say, all that changed today for the better today. I've managed to spend up to six hours outside happily veggie gardening away.
Weeding, mulching, fertilizing, harvesting, planting seeds, just some of the things I was able to achieve today.

On a slightly less brighter note I'd like to vent my frustration on what must be the most health conscious possum going around.

As you can see in the photo the possum has helped itself to some of my coriander along with silverbeet, beetroot leaves, parsley and not to mention the fresh new shoots on my roses.
Anyhow everything precious is now either caged or sprayed with chilli spray so that might slow down his culinary delight but I think I'm stuck with him/her for a while.

That's it for today and as I sit here writing this all is looking for another good go at the veggie garden on Tuesday. It's still pretty cold here over night but I'd like to get some beetroot seeds planted and I might put in a few Tomato seeds in a warm sheltered place to see if I can get an early start on the Tomato season. I've still got plenty of weeding to do plus some soil preparation for the coming Spring, fingers crossed.

Cheers and happy veggie gardening

FWIW

FWIW Just a quick update on the compost potato. It is growing and looking very good despite the weathers best efforts to freeze it to bits and I'm sorry but it was too cold to go out and take a photo to show you.

It even looks like it has grown a bit in the last week and needs hilling. With some better weather I hope to get this done on Tuesday. I suppose there is no reason why it will not continue to grow from here and produce potatoes. Smiles all round here.

Cheers and stay warm

Wintery veggie garden.

Hey trendsetters how are you all? If this post sounds a bit rambly it's probably because my brain is frozen. We've been getting down to zero here overnight and flat out making 13/14 during the day with a strong westerly blowing. How is it at your place?

I know it gets colder in other parts of the world but that is pushing my limits of comfort and I 'd like to say I've been going like crazy in the veggie garden but I can't. I am hopeful for a nicer day tomorrow and that I can get some work done though.

It's interesting also that at these times of cold in the middle of winter that my Australian Organic Gardening Resource Guide. arrived and I've spent most of the week planning my Spring and Summer veggie garden. I've been looking at lettuce, tomatoes, squash, little pumpkins, beans and more. The list just goes on and on and on.

I'll let the  Bureau of Meteorology have the last word :- Toowoomba: Fine. Early frost. Light to moderate SW winds, fresh at times.

Cheers

P.S. on the bright side when it's this cold the weeds don't get away from you as quick as they do in Summer.

Compast potato.

So what do you do when there is a potato growing in your compost bin?
Bung it in the ground of course.
I am a little worried though because I didn't get the seed potato that it started from. But there was the beginnings of a root system so I gave it plenty of water before it went into shock and now I'll just have to wait and see.

Cool huh?

Cheers
