So I went up a week before the hordes of rose lovers descend on Newtown Park to take a video of the gardens.

They were looking breathtakingly magnificent.

Grow Ginger in a Warm Temperate climate. (Three Minute Monday)

I don't get enough growth in a season to harvest my ginger annually, but by harvesting tri-annually, I should get enough for a years supply.

That's the theory, let's see how it goes in action.

How to grow celery, I hope.

I've had a few half-hearted attempts at growing celery over the years with most ending in dismal failure.

This time, with a determined effort, I'm going all out to see if I can change my luck.

Here's what I'm up to so far... Giving it all I've got.

I hope you enjoy it.

Plant and grow Spinach in Containers.

I received multiple varieties of Spinach from Happy Valley Seeds so I'm trying four of them out.

I'm also sowing mostly into containers mainly because I find it easier to grow baby leaf veggies this way. Orangs Cauliflower. 6 from 7 seeds.

It's been a week now since I planted my Orange Cauliflower seeds. And after four days of rain all but one has germinated.
I watered them with a weak solution of PowerFeed from Seasol and now they need some good sunshine to harden off and put on some good growth before I plant them out into the garden.

I'm planting Orange Cauliflower seeds from Happy Valley Seeds

I'm planting Orange Cauliflower seeds from Happy Valley Seeds plus a whole lot of general info on cauliflower itself.
I discuss some different types of cauliflower plus all the colours available.
Like White, of course, green, purple and orange. Happy Valley Seeds https://www.happyvalleyseeds.com.au/c...

Extract from 'The Many Colors of Cauliflower – Purple, Green, Orange, and White' by Marlene Geiger https://blogs.extension.iastate.edu/a... "White cauliflower used to be the only option. The coloured cauliflowers, like the white variety, are members of the cruciferous vegetable family. They have a similar texture and taste—mild, sweet, and nutty. The major difference is their colour and with colour, a slight difference in nutritional value. White cauliflower matures creamy white if the head is void of direct sunlight. Older cultivars need to be blanched (inner leaves are tied loosely over the small heads to reduce the amount of light penetration) to prevent the sun from turning white cauliflower to yellow. Newer cultivars are self-blanching as the plants produce inner leaves that hug the heads tightly preventing light penetration. No blanching is required for the colourful varieties. Purple cauliflower gets its colour from anthocyanin, a naturally occurring phytochemical that is also found in other red, blue, or purple fruits and vegetables, as well as red wine. Carotenoids are responsible for the colour of orange cauliflower; carotenoids are also found in carrots, squash, and other yellow vegetables and fruits. Orange cauliflower actually came about as a genetic mutation that allows it to hold more beta carotene than its white counterpart. Green cauliflower, also known as broccoflower, is a hybrid of broccoli and cauliflower. Green cauliflower contains more beta carotene than white cauliflower, but less than broccoli."

Planting peas seeds.

 Planting peas seeds.

In the spirit of all things sessional, today I planted my second session of pea seeds from seeds that I’d saved from last years crop. I added a handful of blood and bone, with added potash because straight b & b is lacking. Fluffed up the soil and planted my seeds.

Now, is the best time to Sow your Brassica Seeds.

Now is the best time to start sowing your brassica seeds. Cabbage, Broccoli and Cauliflower will get off to a good start and sweeten up as winter arrives.

Happy Valley Seeds Website

Description from Happy Valley Seeds.
CABBAGE Copenhagen Market - 100 HEIRLOOM Seeds This early Cabbage variety holds up longer without splitting than any other variety! Great size, great flavor, and great for the home garden! Matures in 65-100 days. This heirloom variety of cabbage was developed in Denmark; they began selling it in 1909. This variety has good keeping ability, excellent uniformity, and rich flavour. This variety is outstanding for coleslaw. It's a popular market variety that has the added benefit of shipping very well. Protect your cabbage row from the caterpillar of the cabbage moth by draping lightweight row cover over the plants. Sowing time is Autumn to early Spring. Avoid hot times of the year. Prefer sunny position, sow 5mm deep, emerge 7-14 days, best germination at less than 22 °C soil temperature. Harvest approx. 65-100 days after sowing. Propagation notes will be supplied with seed packet. Lambley Nursery Website It seems Broccoli Arcadia (F1) is unavailable but they still have a good selection of Broccoli to choose from.

I've just posted my latest YouTube video. Come and check it out.

I'm planting pea seeds that I saved from last years crop. It's late Summer and I want to find out if now is too early to plant peas or not.
Peas are a cool-season crop so I'm wondering if now is too early for them.

I planted Stewart F1 tomato seeds.

Surfing around the interwebs last week, as you do on a rainy day, and I found myself on the Lambley Nursery website looking up tomato seeds.

You wouldn't believe it but there on the page is "Stewart F1", Tomato seeds for sale.

There was nothing left to do, but hit the add to cart button and get me a packet.

To add to the attraction it claims to have Terrific disease resistance as well.

My No.1 Goal for 2021 and Happy New Year.

Happy new year to each and every one of you. My wish is for all your wildest dreams to come true, especially mine.

I've wanted a raised garden bed from Birdie Garden Products for some time now and I've made the decision that 2021 is the year. It's going to tack some work and time but I'm 100% determined to get this done.

Wish me luck.
