That's it. I quit, I've had enough!!!
That's it. I quit, I've had enough!!! The straw that broke this camels back. After watering endlessly for the last three weeks to keep the veggie garden alive in plus 30 degree heat, I wake up this morning to find half my chooks have escaped and ripped half the garden to pieces. So I hereby quit my back yard garden and leave it for the chooks and will concentrate soley on the Toowoomba Community Organic Gardens where I only have to worry about my veggies being vandalised or stolen by big human chooks.

OOOHHHH,
I can certainly understand how that would be totally disheartening. I am glad you have another space to garden and maybe next year if the weather is being a bit more forgiving you will be inspired to try again at home.
Kind Regards
Belinda
The great chook rebellion of 2009!
Were they getting enough fresh greens or are they just rebels?
Did they avoid anything in particular? I think they will avoid corn over about 50cm and I doubt they will attack spuds, eggplant or tomato. Zucchini, squash and pumpkin should be safe when large enough, same with climbing beans.
I feel for you Stewart, it is so demoralising when you put all that effort in watering in the hot weather and then something like that happens. Maybe when you have a look around in there you will find some survivors. You could always pay the chooks back and eat them :)
OHHHHHH NOOOOOOOO!!! That happened here one year. Now we have prison like fencing!!! Those henny pennys are never going to escape again!!
These guys make Harry Houdini look like a third rate magician!
As a Newbie, I am always searching online for articles that can help me. Thank you
