Three Minute Minty Monday

How did your gardening journey start?
In this Three Minute Minty Monday, it all began with a weedy mint plant growing beside a leaky water tank.

The Tale of Two Tomatoes

I got around to editing The Tale of Two Tomatoes video yesterday so here it is.

It's a bit rambly but I hope it makes enough sense.

Bottom line is I hope I get some tomatoes this year.

The tale of two tomatoes is about overwintering two tomato plants grown from cuttings taken from two self-sown tomatoes to see if I can get a jump on the tomato growing season.

Our driest month of the year

August is usually our driest month of the year so to go out and find 16mm of rain in the rain gauge is cause for much joy.

For early August around these parts that is phenomenal rain. Being winter with its low evaporation temperatures this is more than enough to carry the veggie garden through to the next, hopefully not too far away, rain event.

I've often pondered the expression 'rain event' as to mean that it happens so rarely that we call it an event as opposed to something like just another rainy day.

Anyway, I am very grateful for this recent rain event and the garden is almost jumping out of its skin, so to speak. The weeds are too so I guess I'll need to prioritise a weeding session when the garden dries out enough to work on.

Hope everything is going well for you in your veggie garden and I'll see you outside with dirt under your fingernails and a full bucket of weeds for the compost.

Cheers for now
Stewart. ❤

How to treat Citrus Gall Wasp and Scale insects on your Citrus trees.

I had a Lime tree with a few problems that needed my attention. One was Citrus Gall Wasp and the other was a scale insect attack. Here I go through a few simple steps, including a bonus tip, on what you can do to alleviate these problems.

Wow, I went back down to the lime tree today in better sunlight and found an easy 30 or so galls that I needed to cut out. It pays to check and recheck at different times of the day to see what you might have missed.
