It's Friday the 16th and the end of a very wet week. And by wet I mean 89mm or 3 1/2 inches in the old money.
Absolutely fabulous rainfall for, what is usually, our driest month of the year and a great lead into our upcoming Spring.
Prior to the rain coming I had managed to make good progress on some gardening tasks, including
- Planting two small rows of Pink Eye potatoes. My concern is that we may have had too much rain and some potatoes will have rotted. Time will tell.
- I have also purchased and planted seven bare-rooted roses this season and boy oh boy have they enjoyed the rain.
- Seeds sown include bee balm, meadow sage, beetroot, radish, and parsnip.
- Seedlings include Chinese Cabbage, Yellow Leaf Lettuce and mini Cabbage, all showing vigorous growth after the rain.
- I'm also experimenting with Lilium bulbs to see what will grow well in my "warm Temperate" climate. some are up and look like they are doing well and others I'm still waiting for.
Bulbs I planted earlier in the year, like Tulips, Daffodils, Dutch Iris and Anemones, also got a boost from the rain.
How's your August going so far? Wet, dry, cold or windy? I'm calling this August, the Goldilocks' August, just right.
