Just a little video on planting tomato seeds.

 Just a little vid to show how I plant my tomato seeds.
( I've been trying all day to put a backing track on this video but youtuba are taking forever so I'll post it as is.)


The seeds I planted here are the free 'Santorini' heirloom tomato seeds attached to the cover of September's issue of 'Burke's Backyard' magazine.

  According to the mag the seeds 'are from the famous Greek island of Santorini in the Aegean sea. We (Burke's Backyard) sourced this heirloom variety from an old Greek farmer who has been saving his own seeds for 50 years.
  On the dry, volcanic soils of Santorini, the old grower says he never waters his plants and his tomatoes are sensational, so in most areas of Australia normal, natural rainfall will be enough. They're very sweet tasting, 5-6cm smallish fruit produced on a knee-high bush that doesn't need staking.'

Not a good year for growing Tomatoes around these parts this season.

And this one was self sown, all the Tomatoes that I went to the trouble of actually planting failed miserably. 

The rain has arrived as predicted so all my planting yesterday is getting a good soaking at the moment.

It goes without saying that I'm stuck indoors for the next day or so but with nice steady rain falling on the veggie garden outside I wouldn't have it any other way. Gives me heaps of time to look through all the online seed catalogs.

Taxi

 Remember how I said watch this space a few weeks ago. Well here's why.

Just three days old. This is the 'Taxi' Tomato I've been waiting ever so patiently for. See 'Lost but not least' for the saga that is the Taxi Tomato seed.

I'll throw this little bloke a small handfull of blood and bone and a teaspoon of potash (to help keep blossom end rot at bay) in the next few days and pop a few more seeds in as a follow up crop.

Seeing as they are a yellow tomato and I'm a mad keen tomato jam lover I'm going to try making tommy jam from the Taxi fruit and see how it comes up. Yellow tomato jam appeals to me and I only hope it tastes as good as it looks.

Rocks in my head?

Gees, I must have rocks in my head. It's been hotter than Hades for over two weeks here with no sign of rain anywhere. Watering (by hand with watering cans)is keeping me as busy as a one armed wallpaper hanger and so what do I go out and do? That's right, buy more plants, plus, 'plus', I put in an order for a half a dozen more packets of veggie seeds.(Green Harvest - Organic Gardening Supplies)

Is this eternal optimism or have had too much sun lately? I'm hoping it's the first option but fear it's the second.

Anyhow, the weather is 'supposed', to change for the better this weekend (still hot today, currently 28c @ 9.00am heading for a max of 35c) so after enjoying Burke's Backyard Tomato last year they are getting another run this year. I'll plant two in my backyard and the other two will go to the Toowoomba Community Organic Gardens
