Spring storm rain

20 mls. 20 mls of beautiful Spring storm rain here at 'My veggie garden' last night. I can almost hear them (my veggies that is) growing as I walk around my backyard, and the weeds but that's another story.

I expect to see the next crop of beans up by this weekend along with the yellow button squash. The carrots and beetroot will take another week or so. Oh, and I wouldn't be surprised to see the radish up when I go out for a look tomorrow.

I sure the the tomatoes, cabbage and lettuce I've planted will be having a good time too and it'll be great for the corn I plan to plant this weekend.

What can I say? Nothing beats a nice fall of Spring storm rain.

Cheers and all the best for your veggies,

Stewart.

P.S. As I'm sitting here writing this we've (we've as in me and my veggie garden that is) just had another shower pass over. It's all good here.

What can I say?

Well well well what can I say? As you can see from the forecast below it going to turn wet wet wet, again. So to make to most out of an ordinary situation today has moved from a weeding to a seed planting day.

I'm thinking beetroot, carrots and another round of brassicas including  broccoli, savoy cabbage and cauliflower.

Rain

About time I put something up on the old bloggie thing. Though there's not much to write about lately except for rain. A facebook friend in San Antonio, Texas has even heard about our rain on their news and asked me how I was getting on.

I'm just going to get the machete and see if I can cut a swath through the back yard to the rain gauge to see how much we've had here. I'll be back in 30 minutes or so but just in case you don't hear from me again, then, it's been fun........

......I made it back, I have returned triumphant from my travels to the rain gauge and as I suspected my 120ml rain gauge doth overflowerth. Just too much rain for my little gauge to handle.

338, that's our official total of ml's for the 28 days of December so far, at the airport. And although we are only 6 or 7 k's away from the airport we do receive more rain here than there.

It's amazing to me that only 12 months ago I was disillusioned with the veggie garden due to the ongoing drought and having to lug around watering can after watering can of water to keep the garden alive, and now I'm disillusioned because I can't get out and work on the garden due to the incredible amount of rain we are getting. Maybe with a little luck things will balance out after these extremes and I can settle into some productive veggie gardening.

While I've been talking about rain we haven't received any to-day and it's supposed to be fine tomorrow, and though I am working all day that doesn't matter because it will still be too wet to work in the veggie garden anyway. But if we can get all the planets to line up then on Thursday I should be able to get a few hours outside, so here's hoping for Thursday.

Cheers and beers

I went Berko

I went berserk (some say berko) yesterday on the strength of the BoM's prediction of good rainfall this week and planted heaps of seeds.

I planted seeds (direct sowing that is) of carrots, lettuce, cucumber, rock melon, beetroot, corn, bok choy and beans (butter of course).

So as the rain tumbles down I'm feeling pretty pleased with myself right now and if the BoM, with further predictions of rain ,storms and showers through out the week, has it right then by early next week I should have little baby veggies popping up every where, fingers crossed of course.

50mm to 9am

Hi all,
Well I'm impressed, the Australian Government Bureau of Meteorology Queensland finally got something right.

We've had buckets of rain here the likes of which I haven't seen for years.

32mm up to 9am on Tuesday morning and another 50mm to 9am this morning (Wed) and it's still raining heavily.

Now if it can only keep raining as forecast and we get as much rain again then we just might end up with some much need inflows to our local storage dams.

Tropical Cyclone Hamish. This post here has some information on the dire straights of our local dams.

Cheers and happy veggie gardening,
Stewart

It's raining, it's really raining. 7 mls far
This is the first time in about three weeks I haven't had to trudge around the backyard watering.
