Here are the results of planting tomatoes later than the accepted wisdom.
Not all that pretty now that we are in the middle of winter but this is the most tomatoes I've managed to harvest here in quite some time.
I will try two more trials this coming summer, planting seeds on the 1st of December and January.
How do you go with your tomatoes? Do you think planting later would help? Let me know in the comments.
Oh, and don't forget to subscribe to my YouTube channel. Every bit helps a poor dirt farmer. π

How to Improving your soil with Leaves
π Leaves, leaves and more leaves. You can never have enough or too many leaves when it comes to improving your soil, and you're always improving your soil.
π I go out early each morning on the weekends and rake up as many leaves as I can and place them in a part of the yard that I have spare and just let them sit there to rot.
π when they are ready I either add them to the compost or spread them around the garden as a sub mulch.

The time has come to harvest the potato bag.
The time has come to harvest the potato bag.
While the harvest was small I remain hopeful of better harvests in the future.
Three things I can do different, one is to plant earlier, two is to move the bags to a sunnier position and three is to increase the amount of water they receive. Three and a half would be to regularly apply liquid fertiliser.
The reason I could supply more water is that I wasn't sure about the drainage of the bags. So in order to avoid a soggy mess and possible rotting the potatoes, I kept them a bit on the dry side.
From what I could tell though is that the bags seemed to drain quite well.

Tomato Trial update using Searle's 5 in 1
The great tomato trial update.
I cover pinching out lateral growth, staking and tying up. Taking cuttings and a few tips on general tomato health.
About a month ago now I planted two different tomato varieties into planting holes prepared with Searle's 5 in 1.
Here is the link to that video. https://youtu.be/SyYXkkI4J98
We have had excellent conditions for growing tomatoes with up to five inches of rain and pleasant 25 to 28c daytime temperatures.
So far I am more than impressed with the health, vigour and overall growth of the tomatoes. With some small tomatoes already being produced.

Growing Zucchini. How to plant and grow.
Growing zucchini.
Part one and two in my quest to grow zucchini without being plagued by blossom end rot.
After adding cow manure, compost, blood and bone and lime and letting it sit for a month it's now time to add to add the final piece of the puzzle, some gypsum.
Pop in a few seeds and sit back and wait.
